In 1982, the orthodox Jewish community of Northeast Philadelphia built its first mikvah on the basement floor of a single-family home in the Rhawnhurst neighborhood. This modest facility was to serve as the foundation of Jewish life for our fledgling community.
40 years later, in 2023, the Northeast Jewish community is flourishing, with more than 400 families now calling the neighborhood their home. We seek to construct a centrally-located, state-of-the-art mikvah in Northeast Philadelphia that accommodates our community’s incredible growth, now and for the future.
Our Current Mikvah…
Situated on a busy street in an unsafe urban area.
Located on the periphery of the Jewish community, nearly 1-2 miles from most homes.
Due to the location, many women feel unsafe attending mikvah at night, and some do not go at all.
Requires major exterior and interior renovations that are cost prohibitive.
Too small to accommodate our growing community.
Our Vision…
A beautiful and tastefully designed 4,000 sq. ft. facility in the heart of the Jewish community.
Seven preparation rooms, one women’s mikvah, one men’s mikvah, and a keilim mikvah.
A safe facility with security systems, lighting, and a dedicated parking lot.
Next Steps…
A beautiful and centrally-located property has been purchased.
Preliminary site design is underway.
Mikvah USA has come on board as our partner in this exciting initiative.
To date, we have raised $1,100,000 of our total budget.
Our goal is to raise $1,400,000 by July 2023 in order to break ground on our project.
Mikvah is the most foundational institution in a Jewish community and takes precedence over building a shul, a school, and even a sefer Torah.
Please consider partnering with us in this essential project. Together we can bring our vision to reality and build the Abraham Offen Mikvah in Northeast Philadelphia.
